Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Training
Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training is required for investigators and research staff involved in the conduct of clinical trials.
Following a review of CRDO's GCP training program in August 2026, CRDO has transitioned from delivering face-to-face GCP workshops to an online GCP training model. Online training provides flexible, on-demand access to GCP education and allows researchers to complete training at a time convenient to them, while continuing to meet GCP training requirements.
CRDO continues to offer a range of educational opportunities through workshops, seminars and CRDO Need to Know Forums.
Which GCP Training Do I Need?
The appropriate GCP training depends on your role and the type of trial you are conducting.
Investigators and Site Staff
Investigators and their site staff involved in the conduct of clinical trials should complete a recognised GCP course.
Recommended Course: ICH E6(R3) Good Clinical Practice for Investigators and Site Staff
This course:
- Was developed by CRDO for A-CTEC
- Is available free of charge
- Meets the TransCelerate Minimum Criteria for ICH GCP training for investigators and site staff
- Can be completed online at your own pace
- Provides a Certificate of Completion
- Duration: Approx 3-4 hours
To access the course you must first register for a free A-CTEC account.
Access the course at ICH E6(R3) Good Clinical Practice for Investigators and Site Staff
Sponsor-Investigators and Central Coordinating Teams
Researchers undertaking Sponsor responsibilities require additional GCP training beyond that provided in the A-CTEC course.
This includes:
- MCRI Sponsor-Investigators
- Members of the central coordinating teams, e.g. Clinical Trial Manager, Statistican, Data Manager
- CRDO and A-CTEC do not currently provide Sponsor-focused GCP training.
Researchers with Sponsor responsibilities should complete additional Sponsor GCP training through an external provider.
Suggested training providers include:
LifeSciences Australia
GCP Training for Investigational Sites and Sponsor Representatives ICH E6(R3)
PRAXIS Australia
Good Clinical Practice Online Training
Medical Device Clinical Investigations
Researchers involved in clinical investigations of medical devices should esnure they are trained in the requirements of ISO 14155: Clinical Investigation of Medical Devices for Human Subjects - Good Clinical Practice.
ISO 14155 training may be required in addition to general ICH GCP training, depending on your role and the nature of the study.
Suggested training provider:
PRAXIS Australia
New GCP for Medical Devices ISO 14155:2026
GCP Refresher Training
Researchers are required to maintain current GCP training and to renew their GCP certification at least every three years in accordance with Melbourne Children's requirements. See MCTC194a SOP | Trial-Specific Qualification, Education, and Training – Clinical Trials Staff.
A Refresher course to the current version of the applicable GCP (ICH or ISO 14155) is suitable for staff who have prevoiusly completed a recognised foundation GCP course and have maintained current GCP certification within the previous three years.
Available via A-CTEC: GCP Refresher (ICH E6R3)
Important
The A-CTEC GCP Refresher is designed for Investigators and Site Staff. It does not address all GCP responsibilities applicable to Sponsor-Investigators and members of the central coordinating trial team.
